Islay Indulgence

All our Scottish whisky tours can be adapted to suit, this one starts in Glasgow and is based on four people with superb tastings along the way. You can add on and change distilleries where possible and of course, travel as a couple or bring more friends. Here’s a superb 4 night/5 day tour, taking in the isles of Islay and Arran. (or just Islay if you wish).

  • Day

    1

    Marcus meets you at Glasgow Airport and with a Scotch in hand whisks you away to the west coast, “west is best” as us Scots say.  We head to Campbeltown stopping at Loch Lomond for photos then time for lunch at the quaint wee town of Inveraray. The town is home to the Clan Campbell with a good pub and 2 whisky shops. 

    This afternoon tour Springbank Distillery and maybe purchase more drams at the bar. This is the only distillery to complete 100% of the whisky process on site. Overnight in Campbeltown, in a hotel with a large award winning whisky bar.

  • Day

    2

    This morning we arrange a sample of four drams at Glen Scotia Distillery which is rich in original features and equipment. Then we sail to the isle of Islay. Today and tomorrow, you have many choices. We have included the Number One Warehouse Tasting, straight from the cask at Bowmore Distillery, the oldest continually operating distillery in Scotland.

    Finally, you check in to your hotel in Bowmore, which has a good bar, overnight here.

    3

    Today you have the Laphroig Experience Distillery Tour with the option of buying additional drams at the bar. The distillery is in a stunning waterside setting. Then time for lunch and and buy flights at Ardbeg Distillery.

    This afternoon join the guide for the Lagavulin Warehouse Experience, a fantastic cask tasting. Overnight Bowmore.

    4

    Today, you take the brilliant Bruichladdich Experience, a full tour of this Victorian distillery followed by 3 drams straight from the cask in the warehouse. Time for lunch at Kilchoman Distillery, the only independent farm distillery on Islay, where you can purchase more drams.

    This afternoon you take the Warehouse 9 Experience, tasting 4 cask strength drams at Bunnahabhain Distillery (or Bunny as we call it) – it’s very picturesque. Overnight Bowmore.

  • Day

    5

    Leaving Islay on the morning ferry. Once on the mainland it’s a short drive to catch the ferry to Arran. On the island you visit Lochranza Distillery where you have time for lunch followed by their Select Tasting including limited edition scotch. Check in to your hotel in Brodick. Overnight on Arran.

    6

    Your  final day with Scotland Whisky Tours, today will depend on the time you are flying out of Scotland, or staying longer.

    This morning visit Laag, Lochranza’s sister distillery where you can purchase drams at the bar. Then it’s a return sailing back to the mainland and return to Glasgow.

    It may be possible to drop in to Clydeside Distillery. Marcus drops you at a hotel or Glasgow Airport – until next time!
